		<info><![CDATA[The Ruapehu District located in the north island of New Zealand takes its name from the active volcano Mt Ruapehu (rua "pit" pehu "to explode"). Covering an area of 6,700 square kilometres, Ruapehu is home to the dual listed World Heritage Tongariro National Park, Whanganui National Park and the Whanganui River.
Mt Ruapehu is New Zealand's most accessible live volcano and at 2,797 metres is the highest mountain in the North Island. It is enjoyed and explored all year round by hikers, skiers, snowboarders, botanists, geologists, and nature lovers alike.
