New Zealand is the World’s Least Corrupt Country
Friday, 20 November 2009
According to the Transparency International 2009 Corruption Perceptions Index, New Zealand is the least corrupt country in the world.
Transparency International bases its findings on surveys of how corrupt the public sector is perceived to be in 180 countries. This includes important officials such as immigration officers and the police, as well as a range of government officials.
The results show that New Zealand has a very trustworthy public service, and that visitors, students and immigrants can feel safe in their dealings with public servants in New Zealand.
The annual survey has shown for many years that New Zealand is one of the least corrupt countries in the world. This year they stand alone at the top of the list, followed by Denmark in second place.
