Great Eco-Minds Gather in Rotorua

Late last month in Rotorua, New Zealand the biennial Eco-Minds Youth Forum brought together 25 like-minded students from nine Asia-Pacific countries to seek integrated solutions to environment and energy issues. Despite different educational and cultural backgrounds, the participants had at least one thing in common - the strong desire to bring about sustainability and a healthier environment.

World’s Antarctic Research HQ Moves to New Zealand

The global organization responsible for co-ordinating the Antarctic research activities of 29 nations is shifting from Australia's Hobart to the University of Canterbury in the city of Christchurch. The international secretariat of the Council of Managers of National Antarctic Programs (Comnap) will be based at Canterbury University's Gateway Antarctica research center.
NZ and Germany Team up in Marine Research

A world-ranked marine research institute is to be established in Tauranga, thanks to a $5.5 million grant from the German Government and the forging of a partnership between Waikato University and Bremen University. The cream of post-graduate research scientists from around the world will be working side by side in Tauranga from early next year.
