World’s Antarctic Research HQ Moves to New Zealand

The global organization responsible for co-ordinating the Antarctic research activities of 29 nations is shifting from Australia's Hobart to the University of Canterbury in the city of Christchurch. The international secretariat of the Council of Managers of National Antarctic Programs (Comnap) will be based at Canterbury University's Gateway Antarctica research center.
NZ and Germany Team up in Marine Research

A world-ranked marine research institute is to be established in Tauranga, thanks to a $5.5 million grant from the German Government and the forging of a partnership between Waikato University and Bremen University. The cream of post-graduate research scientists from around the world will be working side by side in Tauranga from early next year.

New research from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) shows that New Zealand and Finland are the top countries when it comes to Secondary School science results.
NZ Uni Tackles Carbon Footprints

Massey University in Palmerston North is creating a new research centre to look at how carbon emissions are created by primary industries, and how they can be reduced. The New Zealand Life Cycle Assessment Centre was granted NZ$1.3 million over five years by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to get it up and running.
