More than 1,600 new international students enjoyed a taste of Auckland’s vibrancy at yesterday’s International Student Welcome at the Auckland Town Hall.

New Zealand will be a home away from home for the next two years for a group of teacher trainees from Malaysia who have just arrived at the University of Otago in Dunedin. Other Malaysian groups are studying at Victoria University of Wellington, and the University of Auckland.

Researchers whose work is helping New Zealand companies to break into international markets has won a prestigious award for an article first published six years ago. Professor Sylvie Chetty of Massey University and Professor Colin Campbell Hunt of Otago University challenged existing theories to show that companies export in their own “Kiwi way”.

An Immigration New Zealand pilot project aimed at attracting Singaporeans to New Zealand has resulted in over 1000 registrations each week since it was launched last month, with 3565 potential students and immigrants having registered their interest in just three weeks.

Twenty-nine “Lincoln” students - from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln in the US - wrapped up three weeks of academic study at Lincoln University in Canterbury and sight seeing in New Zealand recently.
