The Master of New Zealand Studies is a 12 month full-time or two year part-time programme with the flexibility to enable you to plan a degree around your particular interests and needs. A wide choice of elective papers is centered around two core papers in New Zealand Studies, followed by a researched thesis.
Course work will give you:
- Knowledge and understanding of a broad range of cross-disciplinary issues and topics in New Zealand society, history and culture, including kaupapa maori and biculturalism
- Introduce you to the national archive, historical and cultural resources of Wellington
- Familiarize you with the primary research methodologies and interpretive strategies appropriate to New Zealand Studies
- Develop your experience as a researcher
Based in the Stout Research Centre for New Zealand Studies, the MNZS enables you to take advantage of the Centre's resources, including its library, resident researchers, seminar and conference programmes.
The Master of New Zealand Studies (MNZS) develops research skills and capacity in students wishing to work in any kind of employment requiring analytical and writing skills, especially those calling for knowledge of New Zealand's history, society and culture. You will have the knowledge and understanding to contribute to areas of New Zealand Studies such as teaching, tourism, libraries and museums, the Public Service, publishing, policy analysis, and contract research.
