The Graduate Diploma in Science is a qualification which is most commonly taken at around Bachelor's degree standard. Students have a choice to complete 14 points of courses from one of the following specialisations offered in the Science Faculty: Discrete Mathematics, Electronics and Computing, Environmental Science, Geophysics, Marine Science, and Operation Research. Alternatively, students may select courses from the schedules for the Degree of Bachelor of Science or from the Degree of Bachelor of Science (Honours) or from the Degree of Master of Science. The 14 points must include: at least 8 points from courses at Stage III or above including at least 6 points in a subject major as defined in the schedule to the Degree of Bachelor of Science; 6 points from courses above Stage I. A 2-point project or 4-point dissertation may be included. The complete Diploma requirements add up to the equivalent of a year's full-time programme. There is a normal time limit of two years, but this can be extended if required.
To be admitted to this programme, students need to have completed the requirements for the Degree of Bachelor of Science, or attained an equivalent level of professional practical experience, or completed the requirements for a professional qualification in Science; and passed the prerequisites for the courses in the selected subject major or area of specialisation for this diploma, or attained a level of competence equivalent to the prerequisites for the courses in the selected subject major or area of specialisation for this diploma.
