Taradale High School (THS) is a co-educational secondary school of over 1000 students. The strength of the school is the well balanced combination of academic, cultural and sporting excellence offered. The interests and talents of students are fostered. THS excels in many areas and is the top achieving co-educational high school for NCEA in this region, and the top performing school for boys ahead of single sex schools. THS has many outstanding sporting achievements at both regional and national level, and gained the distinction in 2011 of being NZ Adventure Racing champions. International students are valued by our New Zealand students and this assist with their successful integration into the school community. A wide modern curriculum prepares students well for tertiary study. With over 40 years experience in catering for the needs of international student, THS provides a high quality of pastoral care. Teacher Aides are employed to provide in-class support in the student’s first language. Taradale High School is located in Napier. This beautiful provincial city, famous for its architecture, is known as the Art Deco capital of the world and is situated on the East Coast of the North Island. Beside the sea, yet only two hours away from the mountains, Napier enjoys a sunny, temperate climate with excellent recreational and sight seeing opportunities. Renowned as the wine capital and fruit bowl of New Zealand, this region offers a wonderful study environment. Located in the suburb of Taradale, the High School is a five-minute walk to a convenient shopping centre, and new sports arena with modern gymnasiums and sports facilities. Taradale has extensive sports grounds and is near to picturesque parks and golf courses. A regular bus service runs into Napier’s city centre.

Programme for International Students
Taradale High School provides a wide range of learning experiences including appropriate ESOL classes from elementary to advanced levels. Class sizes are small and teachers experienced. A special feature of the school is the availability of multi-level education, which allows students to study subjects at different levels according to their ability. All students have an orientation programme before being placed in class.
Students live with a New Zealand family. Homestay accommodation is arranged by the school. Consideration is given to student requests and preferences where possible. Most homestays are located in the suburb of Taradale within a short walking distance of the school
