Currently Deputy Governor and Vice Chairman, Court of Directors, for the Bank of Thailand, Mrs Tanya Sirivedhen commenced her career in the banking industry in 1972, as an Economist in the International Finance Section (Bank of Thailand). In addition, she has held a number of influential positions throughout the financial world, such as Alternate Executive Director, International Monetary Fund, Washington (1989-1992) and at present Director for Export – Import Bank of Thailand.
And the foundation for this career is her tertiary education in New Zealand, having completed a Bachelor of Arts (Economics) in 1967. She still recalls this time with fondness, in terms of both the course she completed and the lifestyle she experienced. “Victoria University gave me a good basic education in economics which has been very useful throughout my career.”
With considerable experience of many cultures throughout the world, Tanya Sirivedhin views New Zealanders as “among the friendliest people anywhere.” In recommending New Zealand as a study destination, she also highlights the important area of safety, believing “New Zealand is one of the safest places to send kids to study.”
Wellington is New Zealand’s capital city. It’s full of cafes, bars and theatres and has a beautiful harbour.
