Some international students choose New Zealand for only a portion of their tertiary study programme taking the opportunity to add a new dimension to their education. However, once here they often find it very difficult to leave, and either extend their stay or come back at a later date. This was the case for Sarah Agnolin from Canada. The one semester she planned for her New Zealand studies simply wasn't enough ! This is her story.

"I've been living in New Zealand since the beginning of February. I'm originally from Windsor, Ontario, and am currently completing my honours degree in Communication Studies at Victoria University of Wellington.

I was only supposed to stay here for one semester, but once I arrived, I soon realized I didn't ever want to leave, and arranged to finish my degree here.

My decision to study in New Zealand was based heavily on the absolute beauty of the land I'd seen depicted in movies and in photographs. It wasn't until I got here that I discovered that the people here are the country's best-kept secret. In addition to New Zealand's natural environment, never in my life have I experienced such hospitality and genuine concern from complete strangers. I dread the thought of ever having to leave such a magical place."
