Afthanistan-born Roya Najib came out to New Zealand with her family as a refugee two years ago. She chose the University of Canterbury based on its reputation as a world-leading educational institution. "It's one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in New Zealand, with famous alumni like Rutherford. "
Roya commenced her tertiary education by enrolling in Foundation Studies at the University of Canterbury. Here she found the warmth of support offered by tutors a valuable aspect of the programme. "This is a warm and welcoming environment. The staff and teachers of this university are very friendly and have been very encouraging....Jan Wikaira, my Foundation Studies chemistry teacher, always listened to my problems and comforted me when I was upset of the things that are happening in Afghanistan. She was very supportive."
"After finishing my undergraduate degree, I will try to find a job and if there was the opportunity, I would love to continue my studies further to higher degrees."
