AUT alumni head-hunted for key Facebook role
Friday, 1 April 2011
Mark D’Arcy, an AUT University alumni, was head-hunted by Facebook to become its director of global creative solutions – where his job will be to boost the appeal of the social network’s ad offerings, The Wall Street Journal reports.
The 39-year-old was previously president of Time Warner’s Global Media Group, and was part of the contingent of executives who negotiated a deal with the New Zealand government to have the Hobbit movie filmed in New Zealand.
Mr D’Arcy’s role will be integral for the growth of Facebook, as it attempts to monetise its 500 million members.
After graduating from AUT, Mr D’Arcy worked for a range of small advertising agencies before being hired by DMB&B – the agency that sent him to New York at age 23.
His clients included Virgin Atlantic Airways, Sony and Qantas – and two of his commercials were named in Ad Week’s Top 50 commercials of the year in 2001 and 2002.
He joined Time Warner in 2004 as chief creative officer and was promoted to president in June last year.
