Na-Yeon Hwang
Name: Na-Yeon Hwang
Born: Korea South
Locations: Nelson
Discipline: Tourism and Travel
It was a desire to change her career that brought Na-Yeon Hwang (known as Jeon) from Korea to Nelson, New Zealand. Originally studying Comupter Design in Korea, Jena wanted to switch to a career in either adventure tourism
or the hotel industry.
So Jena enrolled at the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT), first completing English Language studies then working on the Introduction to Tourism programme.
Jena has found her New Zealand institution a friendly place to study. “At first I missed my friends and family but now I’ve made friends and feel at home here. NMIT offers students many opportunities for activities and to meet people from all over the world….It’s not too big or too small, it’s a friendly place and there are many kind people."
According to Jena, the best thing about Nelson is the excellent weather. And she makes the most of the climate by participating in a range of sports in her spare time such as horse riding, hiking and motor trekking.
Next step for Jena is the NMIT’s Diploma of Tourism.
Nelson has a warm climate and is bordered by three national parks.
