British Student Hamish Clapp (Newcastle, England) is currently studying the Diploma in Sporting Performance (Level 5) Speciality: Rugby, with the Otago Institute of Sport and Adventure, at Otago Polytechnic.
Hamish Clapp is student who knows his rugby and he knew that New Zealand would be the place to study, while developing his sport. "Sport in New Zealand is second to none, so I came here to play rugby, where it's done best! It has been a dream to play senior rugby in such a relaxed and pleasant country where everyone is so friendly. I've benefited from the small classes and personalised instruction with the Sports Institute they teach you so that you can go as far as you want, with your sport. They've got everything from golfers to bare-foot water-skiers studying at the Sports Institute. And, the student life in Dunedin is like nothing I've ever experienced before, it's so relaxed and everyone is so friendly."
Hamish raves about his student life in Dunedin; "Everything is so close, you can walk absolutely everywhere, you don't have to take a taxi or bus. It's very peaceful - a great student environment. Even though Dunedin is New Zealand's 4th largest city, it only has a population of 120,000 and with tertiary training institutes such as Otago Polytechnic and Otago University right in the centre, the city revolves around student life. Accommodation is affordable and easy to find, and the city provides plenty of entertainment."
