Eduardo Oliveira

Looking to develop his English language skills, Eduardo Oliveira chose an international education. and he chose New Zealand. There were two specific benefits of a New Zealand secondary school education that assisted with his decision making "the subjects at Otumoetai College (in Tauranga) fitted in with my study in Brazil, however unlike Brazil I was able to choose subjects that interested me."

For Eduardo, his New Zealand education has exceeded all expectations. "It is the best experience I have had in my life, because I have learnt about different cultures, different people and have done different things to what I do at home. I find New Zealand people as a whole to be friendly and helpful. In the school environment people take the time to explain things and are helpful...The teachers communicate easily with the students and students move between classes so there is a chance for a break.

"The highlight of my study experience is being able to study different sports in Physical Education such as rugby (I am in the First XV rugby team), badminton, squash, underwater hockey and weightlifting. In Outdoor Education I had the opportunity to participate in kayaking and bushcraft."

Eduardo's obvious love of sports has been further fostered by the recreational opportunities offered as part of the New Zealand lifestyle. "I have enjoyed rugby, surfing, bungy jumping, sky diving and sightseeing!"

In summing up his New Zealand education experience, Eduardo refers again to the choices offered. "It is the best country to study in because you can choose your subjects and there are a lot of sports to choose".

On completion of his New Zealand secondary school education, Eduardo plans to return to Brazil and commence legal studies at university with a long term goal to practise as a lawyer.
