Korean Equine Students enjoy time in Christchurch

A visit by twenty students from Horseman High School in Korea to a Christchurch training academy is seen as further good news for the city’s ability to attract international student groups again following the 2011 earthquake.
The National Trade Academy at McLean’s Island has hosted the students with their teacher for a four-week programme, with the school’s Principal also visiting, leading to an agreement for ongoing business.
Managing Director Craig Musson said he thought the visit to Christchurch was a great result for the city, as the Korean school regularly sends students overseas to increase their English as well as their equine skills, however this is the first time they have travelled to New Zealand.
“The group of 16 to 18 year olds arrived just in time to visit the Canterbury A & P Show, and have relished the opportunity to not only broaden their English and training in the equine industry, but also experience the kiwi lifestyle through the homestay programme”
Musson said the school was very happy with the programme and were planning to bring a group of ten students back for a three month course. The National Trade Academy worked with Sunny Jeong, a Korean based agent who is also an equestrian journalist and riding instructor, who accompanied the students on the trip.
Korea Horseman High School is a public high school specialising in students who wish to have a career as a jockey, trainer or stable manager. There is perfect synergy with the National Trade Academy with its Equine facilities in Christchurch.
