Waiariki is situated in Rotorua, New Zealand's premier tourist resort offering the student the complete educational destination. Visitors to Rotorua enjoy Maori culture, geothermal activity, spectacular scenery, and many tourist attractions and adventures. The city is only 40 minutes to great surf beaches and a short drive to a major ski-field. Waiariki - serious study combined with fantastic recreational opportunities.
The campus is located in a provincial setting in a clean, green and safe environment. The city centre is only five minutes drive from the campus and has all the services required by an international student.
Rotorua is the centre for Maori, New Zealand's indigenous people. Studying in our institution provides an opportunity to learn about and experience the unique cultural dimension of our people.
Waiariki Institute of Technology has currently in excess of300 international students per year studying on English Language or mainstream programmes.
Academic Programmes
Waiariki Institute of Technology specialises in the areas of Tourism and Hospitality Management; Commerce and Computer Science; Business Administration; Nursing, Health and Social Sciences; Forestry and Wood Technology; Visual Arts and Teaching. It also has an International English Language Centre for international students for whom English is a second language.
Degrees and diplomas are offered in all areas of specialisation. Students can progress from certificate programmes, to diploma programmes to bachelor degree programmes.
Minimum Proficiency Requirements
All students who have not been taught in the English Language medium are required to provide evidence of English Language proficiency.
Certificate programmes require IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL 525.
Diploma programmes require IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 550.
Bachelor degree programmes require IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 575.
Preparation course for IELTS testing can be provided in the International English Language Centre. Waiariki is an official IELTS Testing Centre and IELTS tests are available every month.
Student Services
International students are provided with a wide range of support services by the International Student Centre.
Each student on arrival is provided with a comprehensive orientation programme. Assistance is provided with homestay, visa applications, and study programme counselling.
All students are members of the Students Association. Students have access to all libraries and to computers in open access computer rooms. All international students are provided with their own email address for internal and external communications.
General Information
Airport Pickup: Transport arranged from Auckland airport; Free pickup from Rotorua airport.
Recommended living expenses: $60 pw.
Accommodation: Homestay recommended $160 pw incl food
Once only Homestay administration fee: $150 pw.
Mainstream programmes commence February and July.
