Facilities

Northcote College has modern facilities such as four computer rooms, two gymnasiums, a heated swimming pool, extensive library. There are specialist teaching areas for subjects such as Science, Art, Technology, English and Performing Arts such as Music and Drama. There are extensive grounds and sporting fields provided for the use of students.

Academic Programme

The school emphasises excellence within a disciplined and supportive environment. We offer a wide range of subjects leading to national qualifications. Our record in the national examinations is outstanding. Northcote College prepares students for the full range of national qualifications undertaken at senior level. Grades are awarded based on both internal assessments and external examination performance. Able students may sit additional University Scholarship examinations. Exceptionally able students are able to participate in a special accelerate programme. Students wishing to gain national qualifications are advised to complete a full year.

Extracurricular Programme

We place particular value on the role of extra curricular activities in building a well-rounded student with well-developed skills in leadership, motivation, team-work and reliability. Students are encouraged to participate fully and to take pride in their own national character.

English Language Support

Specialist English and other subject classes are available and the College offers the IELTS course at senior level. Students also have the opportunity to take the National Speech Board examinations.

Special Relations with Overseas Schools and Students

Our community welcomes a wide variety of international students. We have ties with Malaysia dating back to 1950 and there is an ongoing exchange programme with a Japanese Secondary school.

Student Welfare

Student Welfare is an important part of the programme. The international Office has a team of friendly, helpful and experienced staff who are committed to supporting students. Specialised staff such as the Dean of Overseas Students. Homestay Officer, Form Deans, bilingual teachers and the guidance team help to ensure the welfare of international students.

Accommodation

The College administers its own homestay programme. The Homestay Officer finds suitable homestays and liaises with the international students and their homestays to ensure that both are happy. Homestays are carefully selected. Homestay fee is NZ$180 weekly.
