Atsushi Nishikawa

Name: Atsushi Nishikawa
Born: Japan
Age: 28
Locations: Wellington
Discipline: Business & Management, Commerce, Marketing, Economics

Following graduation from a Tokyo Keizai university with a Business Administration degree, Atsushi Nishikawa spent three years working in sales/marketing for a company that produced dental equipment and x-ray devices for US and European markets. However he wanted to progress his career. "I had a big dream - I wanted to achieve a high level of skills in both English and business; everything that is so essential for me to become a successful businessman in Japan."

His goal was to study both the English language and practical business skills at an internationally recognised level, from a course that would provide maximum benefits in a relatively short period of time.

"I really liked Whitieria Polytechnic. The school provided a great environment to study, and the opportunity to meet a lot of people kind teachers, other international students, and my classmates. I wanted to go to school all the time!"

Study can be stressful, especially when grasping with a new language. Atsushi looked to New Zealand's natural environment to achieve a peaceful balance. "When I was exhausted from study, New Zealand's natural environment ... helped me de-stress and focus on my future and dream." Even more important, was the impact of the people around him. "I never forget the people who helped me during my time in New Zealand. I think that most New Zealanders are very kind and friendly. Especially, I really appreciated my host family. If I had not met them at the time, my life would have not proceeded to plan. As a result, I was able to achieve the course."

The business programme provided Atsushi with the skills he was looking for. "What I really liked studying was marketing. I studied how to launch new products into the market, and how to develop the product. I had never studied this before."

And his New Zealand education led to results. "I know that my choice was the best one. Thanks to Whitireia Polytechnic, I was head-hunted and I am really satisfied with my present job now."
