Name: Pri Utami
Born: Indonesia
Locations: Auckland
Discipline: Engineering, Manufacturing & Surveying

I first studied at the University of Auckland in 1994, taking a three-month post-graduate course in Geothermal Reservoir Engineering.

Indonesia has abundant but under-utilised geothermal resources. Developing this clean and renewable energy however also means developing human resources. The University of Auckland's Geothermal Institute is an international center for geothermal education and so after my three-month course I went back to take a Postgraduate Diploma in Geothermal Energy Technology. The course was intensive, challenging and most importantly, relevant to my work.

In 1997 I was granted leave to take a Masters in geology, again, at the University of Auckland! I enjoyed its vibrant academic atmosphere. I was able to develop my international network as I often met world-class geothermal experts, either at the University on research fellowships or participating in seminars.

Back home in 1998 I was appointed full-time Lecturer and Researcher. Since then I have also been involved in geology and geothermal professional associations and research projects, nationally and internationally.

I should not forget to mention that the New Zealand Government sponsored my studies at the University of Auckland. I proudly conclude that these studies opportunities made my youth worthwhile! Now I am planning to go back, for a PhD this time!
