Why Lynfield College?

Lynfield College is a highly respected school with an excellent academic record. The school has welcomed international students for over thirty years and has established itself as a leading educator of foreign fee paying students and plays a key role in thoroughly preparing students for further studies at tertiary level.

About Lynfield College

Founded in 1958, Lynfield College is a modern, co-educational, state secondary school situated in a residential suburb of west-central Auckland, approximately twenty minutes from both the International Airport and the Central Business District.

The school has a roll of 1800 students, including about 140 International Students. The student population has a truly international flavour with an exciting mix of over 50 nationalities adding to the New Zealand setting.

The school expects high standards of conduct and diligence from students and the consistently fine results achieved in national qualifications, special examinations and academic competitions are evidence of this. Students can select courses from a wide range of subjects, taught by highly qualified and dedicated teachers.

There are also many opportunities for extra-curricular involvement including a wide variety sports and cultural arts activities.

English Language Support

A particular strength of Lynfield College is its large ESOL Department. Highly qualified and experienced teachers provide ESOL teaching and support at all levels. Reception and Foundation classes offer students the opportunity to develop their English language skills, while other classes enable students to acquire the necessary English language qualifications to enter universities and tertiary institutions.

Entry Times

The school year begins at the end of January and ends in early December. The year is divided into four terms each about ten weeks long with a two-week holiday in between.

Students may start at the beginning of each term but gain considerable advantage by arriving at the start of Term One and Three when special programmes are available.

Accommodation

We are very proud of our Homestay Programme, which has given loving and structured care to hundreds of international students over the years. Homestays are arranged with carefully vetted New Zealand families living within easy access of the school and includes full board, airport pick up and ongoing monitoring.

Student Welfare

While Lynfield College has an extensive and effective student support network, international students are also supported by a Director of International Education, an Academic Dean and a team of Homestay supervisors who are committed to ensuring that all international students' academic and pastoral needs are met both in and out of school.
