Tikipunga High School
TIKIPUNGA HIGH SCHOOL is a coeducational, state, day school, catering for students from Year 7-year 13 with a roll of approximatively 500 students, of which 75 % are Maori. Founded in 1971, Tikipunga High School is located on the north-eastern boundary of the city of Whangarei. The school motto is "tukua o punga" laying the foundation. Our aim is for each student to reach their personal potential and be meaningful and productive members of society. The school values the uniqueness of each individual. Tikipunga High School has a roll small enough to ensure that the learning environment is personalised, class sizes are small and teachers know their students, yet large enough to offer a variety of opportunities and a relevant, interesting curriculum.

Northland
Northland, New Zealand’s northern most region, is known for its stunning beaches and sunshine.
Academic Programme:
This is designed to prepare students for tertiary study. Many of our students go on to Universities, Colleges of Education, or Polytechnics.
We have well qualified staff, dedicated to ensuring all students are fully prepared for all National examinations. NCEA ( National Certificate in Educational Achievement) Qualifications are offered at Level 1 (Y11), Level 2 (Y12) and Level 3 (Y13). Being a small school our classes are small, ensuring students having the individual attention they require to help them achieve their goals. We offer a full range of subjects and encourage multi-level learning.
Our school is well known for the excellent results our students achieve especially in the Art subjects and in sports.
International Students: We welcome students from many different countries and recognise the cultural diversity their presence brings. We have regular visits between Tikipunga and school groups from Japan and we take part in many of the International exchange programmes.
As well as fee-paying international students Tikipunga High School welcomes a significant number of exchange students from all over the world.
International Students are met at Auckland Airport and transferred to Whangarei.
Homestays are arranged with local, caring families at a cost of NZ$175 per week. This includes a room, all meals and laundry.
Student Welfare: Tikipunga has a well-established student guidance network dedicated to providing a safe learning environment for all students. The International student Manager is in charge of pastoral care and works closely with the international students, their host families and their Agents/parents in their home countries.
We will enrol students from Year 7 to year 13. However, we prefer that Y7 and 8 students live in New Zealand with a parent, guardian or designated caregiver.
A reasonable level of English is required to enter Year 11, 12 and 13 if students wish to study in classes to prepare for examinations. Although we enrol students at various times of the year it is preferable to do a full year (February to December) if students wish to enter examinations.
International Students have ESOL Tuition of at least 5 hours per week. We can offer preparation for the IELTS examination if they so desire or require that help.
