After completing hotel management courses in Sydney, Uday was keen to further his studies in tourism. He chose to study in New Zealand, because he had heard it was up-and-coming and a tourism-oriented country. Friends recommended Unitec as a good place to study, so Uday enrolled. "The location is amazing and the International team is small. We are looked after well."
Uday enjoys Unitec's Diploma in Tourism Management because there is a practical approach to learning and courses are assignment focused. "For one assignment, to increase tourism, we had to generate business in the empty Devonport Ferry terminal. Another assignment required meeting with an industry sponsor and employing strategies to best improve their business....I'm learning how the tourism industry operates. The emphasis is on environmental protection and sustainability and how to increase tourism."
As a well-travelled person, Uday rates the Unitec course highly and says the tutors and lecturers are very supportive. "I've studied overseas before, but think New Zealand has the highest quality education system found anywhere."
Uday says the country is the perfect place for students to have a full and enjoyable experience. "New Zealand is welcoming to international students and it is a sport's lovers country. All sorts of adventure, water and commercial sports are played here."
Despite the contrast of coming from a land of one billion people to a country populated by only 3.8 million, Uday has found settling in and making new friends easy. He currently shares an inner-city apartment with his sister. "Although New Zealand is isolated it has an amazing infrastructure and the people are friendly."
In Auckland, Uday likes the nightlife, high-quality food and clothing. Being in the tourism industry Uday has made it his priority to see other parts of New Zealand such as Rotorua, The Bay of Islands and the South Island.
And living in a foreign country has taught Uday valuable personal lessons. "It is very important to learn to live and adjust in a multicultural society, improve your communication skills and develop your personality. All students should take the opportunity to study overseas and take full benefit of what a country offers."
