Name: Mohit Sharma
Born: India
Locations: Auckland
Discipline: Business & Management, Commerce, Marketing, Economics

Mohit Sharma’s future lies with a Delhi-based export company. The company was started many years ago by Mohit’s grandfather and is now run by his father and uncle. Once the 21-year-old has completed his Bachelor of International Business Degree he too will become part of the business.

Already a successful operation, the family company produces automotive parts and exports them around the world. However once Mohit is onboard, they plan to diversify. “At the moment we are only exporting what we make but we also want to source other automotive products made in India and export them. My studies will help me do that. It will help me to successfully trade internationally.”

To support his career plans, Mohit has chosen New Zealand for his tertiary education, enrolling for a Bachelor of International Business at the Auckland Institute of Studies St Helens. “The BIB course is quite practical. It tells me what is needed for business.
“Earlier on I didn’t think about studying much. I just thought I could learn on the job, that I’d learn with experience. But then I realised that competition is huge and you really need a business qualification to be successful.”

Originally Mohit was keen to gain his degree in London however the high cost of living was prohibitive so he chose New Zealand instead.
“Living expenses are not that much here. The pace of life is slow and the people are easy-going. It’s not nearly as fast-paced as Delhi – it’s hard to adjust to! But for studying, it’s good.

“I chose AIS St Helens because I can fast-track my course. I want to get back to Delhi as quickly as possible.” The flexible three-semester system at AIS St Helens allows students to fast-track programmes. Dedicated students can complete a diploma or degree in a shorter time, allowing them to enter the workforce more quickly.

With only two semesters of his degree remaining, Mohit is on track for completing his studies in seven semesters. He plans to head back to India at the end of this year and put his new qualification to the test in the world of international business.
