Many international students will be able to stay in New Zealand for up to 12 months, instead of six, on a job search permit while they look for skilled work. These changes set out an easier pathway for students to gain residence.

All international PhD students who are supervised by leading researchers in New Zealand universities pay the same fees as New Zealand domestic students. This policy change came into effect on 1 January 2006.
New Zealand qualifications recognised in fifty countries

New Zealand’s qualifications now have equivalent status in more than 50 countries, through the Lisbon Convention of Recognition of Qualifications concerning Higher Education in the European Area. New Zealand’s request to be included was unanimously approved in mid-2007.
