The New Zealand School of Dance (NZSD) is internationally recognised as one of the Southern Hemisphere's leading dance conservatoires. Established in 1967, it has become New Zealand’s foremost training establishment for classical and contemporary dancers.

Approximately seventy students study full-time at the School, including dancers from Australia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Japan, China, Russia, Brazil and New Zealand. Students train for two or three year qualifications and to prepare for future careers as professional dancers under the tutelage of the internationally esteemed faculty. Entry is by audition and selection is based on a dancer's talent as well as their suitability for a career in dance. The aim is for graduates to enter a major ballet or contemporary dance company, on average 80% of students gain contracts within six months of graduating.
