Not only does Kaori Takeji know what industry she wants to work in - she even knows who she wants to work for!
The self-confessed exercise maniac is determined to land a job at top Auckland gym Les Mills. She already spends between one and two hours most days of the week working up a sweat there, and if she gets her way it won't be long before she's on the payroll.
"I've been going to Les Mills in Japan and New Zealand for eight years. It's famous all over the world and my plan is to get Les Mills training and then I can teach overseas," says Kaori, who is already a qualified aerobics instructor in Japan.
The adventurous 32 year old has spent most of her working life employed as a dietician at a hospital in Takushima.
"Getting a job at Les Mills would be the perfect way to combine my passion for exercise with my experience as a dietician and my English language skills."
Kaori quit her job and left Japan 18 months ago.
"Unfortunately I got quite sick because of all the stress and overwork and I realized I had to change my lifestyle. I thought I needed to relax and I was also curious about English so I decided to study abroad."
She spent two months studying English in Christchurch before heading home briefly and then jet setting her way to Vancouver, Canada, where she planned to stay for a year.
"But I couldn't find a Les Mills programme there and also I was traveling three hours every day to get to and from school so I only stayed for six weeks!"
Instead she returned to New Zealand and is now happily settled in Auckland and a student at FERN English Academy.
"FERN was recommended to me so I took a trial lesson and really enjoyed it. I'd tried another language school but it was too big and the Japanese counselor there wasn't particularly caring. FERN is a lot smaller, which appealed to me and the facilities are much better than other schools I've been to. There are plenty of computers, magazines and newspapers, and the textbooks are good. Also the Japanese Student Advisor is very helpful and caring. I feel well looked after here."
Kaori has been at FERN for six months and has worked her way up from the pre-intermediate class to upper intermediate. She plans to soon join the IELTS preparation class.
For Kaori life in New Zealand is providing her with plenty of challenges, while at the same time being relatively stress-free. It's a winning combination.
