It was a great time at Horowhenua College. Every single teacher I had was friendly and helpful.
The students at Horowhenua College are friendly, welcoming and open to new cultures, but I will never forget the black humour of some people. One of my favourite subjects was Outdoor Education which was really something different to normal PE in Germany. I have learnt a lot of skills in Outdoor Education. For example, repairing and setting up a mountain bike or improving teamwork skills in a High Rope Course. Rock-climbing and kayaking were other things we did in Outdoor Education.
Conversations about the English and German soccer team and of course Economics were our topics in Economics with Mr Fearon, a teacher from England. Wearing a school uniform was part of my experience and it is easier in the mornings when you are only allowed to wear your uniform. In Year 12 you can choose five subjects plus English which is great because you can choose unique subjects such as Outdoor Education.
I represented Horowhenua College at two swimming competitions - Manawatu Secondary School Champs and the North Island Secondary School Champs and believe it was an awesome feeling when you get your certificate in front of the whole school during a full school assembly.
I had a wonderful host family which supported and helped me a lot.
Levin is a nice place with only a few thousand inhabitants but close to Palmerston North and Wellingtion, two great cities with a lot of stuff to do there.
Greetings, Tobis Bulla
The Manawatu and Wanganui districts are popular with international students.
