Since arriving in Christchurch two months ago to begin her studies at CPIT Chen Tien-Hsuan has faced more than just challenging assignments. The Architecture student has also survived an earthquake – an experience Chen says she will of course remember, but one that has not put her off loving Christchurch city and enjoying her life as a student at CPIT.

“Christchurch is very beautiful. The people are friendly. There’s no need to hurry. It’s a very safe and peaceful city,” she said.

“I chose CPIT because I wanted to learn practical skills that I can use in my career. The tutors are great. It’s quite a different learning environment compared to my country. The tutors and students have closer relationships than in Taiwan and they are very helpful, especially after the earthquake. CPIT’s International Services team made contact with me instantly to make sure I was ok and I didn’t need to worry about school because I knew exactly when my classes started again. They also organised a free bus service for students so they could travel to their classes easily without having to worry. The support has been great.”

Chen is confident that her study at CPIT will result in a successful career, one that she hopes to pursue in New Zealand.

“Once I graduate from CPIT, I’d like to study my Masters in Architecture and work in New Zealand as an architect. It really is a peaceful and nice place to live.”
