Yan Mu

When Yan Mu decided she wanted to study hospitality at a leading tertiary institute in New Zealand, CPIT in Christchurch was at the top of her list.

CPIT’s School of Food & Hospitality is internationally renowned for its highly experienced tutors, quality facilities and award-winning graduates. Yan, who is studying towards a National Diploma in Hospitality Management, is now experiencing for herself what it means to be a member of such a reputable school.

“The quality of the education at CPIT is excellent. I have been taught a lot of practical skills; my teachers are patient, careful and scrupulous. I know I will have a solid knowledge base when I finish my studies, which is going to be a great help for my career,” she says.

Even though Yan went back to China after the earthquake in February, she is confident that she will continue to study at CPIT and she still enjoys the lifestyle that Christchurch has to offer.

“After the earthquake, I got the text from CPIT asking if I was safe and if I had any difficulty about accommodation. I was alright but my family really wanted me to go back home for a couple of weeks. When I returned to CPIT, it was great to see that all my stuff that I had left behind at CPIT was safe and well looked after. I’m very grateful for everything CPIT has done for me,” she says.

“I know it’s tough times at the moment for Christchurch, but I still have confidence in this city. I’m used to the lifestyle here and I love the fact that even though it’s the largest city in the South Island, the population is small.

“I hope to find a job when I finish my qualification. I like New Zealand and its people – I would eventually like to become one of them.”
