Waikato
The Waikato region has New Zealand’s longest river and its best surf break, Raglan.
Cambridge High School was established in 1883, and has a long, proud tradition of academic excellence, providing the highest quality of education for it's students. Values of co-operation, self-discipline, respect and integrity are emphasised in a traditional code of conduct, with modern teaching methods and facilities. School uniform is compulsory for all students and Cambridge High School has been described as a 'model school'. The school also prides itself in offering a balance of academic, sporting and cultural opportunites. We have welcomed international students since 1989 and value their presence in our school.
Facilities
Cambridge High School is a fully resourced school. It has a brand new library incorporating a computer network, new ESOL room, new Languages and Science block with Science laboratories. Cambridge High School has a gymnasium with activities and weights rooms, a swimming pool, large fields and a Student Centre. It also has an International Student Office for our internationalstudents to utilise.
The school is sited on 8.5 hectares of attractively planted spacious grounds close to town in rural surroundings. Cambridge has a mild climate and is 20 minutes by car from Hamilton City, home of The University Waikato and Waikato Institute of Technology, and 1½ hours by car from Auckland Airport. It's central location to many interesting places in New Zealand is a huge attraction for many of our students.
Academic Programme
A full -time academic programme is provided, preparing students for univerisity and other tertiary institutions.
ESOL courses are provided by specialist qualified teachers, including one to one and in -class assistance where necessary, preparing students for New Zealand ( NCEA credits) and overseas ( IELTS/TOFEL/TOEIC/City-and-Guilds) studies.
Languages Taught
French, German, Japanese and Maori.
English Language Support
An extensive ESOL course is provided by specialists teachers, including one-to-one and in-class assistance where necessary. It is expected that students who apply will have a basic level of English understanding as ESOL classes are available.
Extracurricular Programmes
Students are encouraged to become involved in the large number of cultural and sporting activities available, including camp programmes, drama productions and musical groups.
ACCOMODATION
Our home stay co-ordinator arranges a home stay with Cambridge families to provide a caring and supportive environment. Contact between the home stay family and the students parents occurs regularly.
We offer a free airport pick up service for new students to our school.
Student Welfare
The Principal, International Student Manager, International Dean, Home Stay Co-ordinator and International Administrator provide guidance and contact and closely monitor and support the needs of all international students. We are very proud of the individual care given to our students, as we want parents to be confident that their children are well looked after.
Tuition Fees 2008
NZ$11,000 per year plus uniform, insurance, stationery and homestay placement fee and homestay accomodation.
