US Travel Experts Pick New Zealand As Top Destination For 2011

Thursday, 13 January 2011

CNN asked three travel experts for their 2011 travel recommendations and New Zealand was second on the list after New York.

Robert Reid, U.S. travel editor for Lonely Planet; Pauline Frommer, creator of Pauline Frommer's guidebooks; and Martin Rapp, senior vice president of leisure sales at Altour said New Zealand’s thriving film industry (filming of two Hobbit movies by Peter Jackson has just begun), fantastically luxurious lodges and the fact the country will be hosting the Rugby World Cup make it a 'must visit' destination for 2011.

Wellington, which has been called the "coolest little capital in the world," and is also known as “Wellywood” because it is the home to the Peter Jackson studios will host some of the World Cup activities.

Around 3000 US students are expected to study abroad in New Zealand during 2011 making it one of the top 20 international study destinations for American students.

The proximity of the country’s universities to its superb natural environment affords students the scope to research anything from endangered marine mammals to earthquake engineering.
