Friday, 9 July 2010
Victoria University of Wellington and the University of Auckland battled for supremacy at the Australasian Intervarsity Debating Championships (Australs) finals with Victoria taking out the top prize.
(via Voxy) More than 300 competitors from across the Asia-Pacific region, including Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, China, Japan, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines have been competing in the week-long tournament in Auckland.
Australs convenor Brad Ward said they were ecstatic an Auckland team had made the finals and even happier that it was an all New Zealand final.
"It's something we couldn't have imagined would have happened before the start of the tournament." The Australasian Intervarsity Debating Championships (Australs) is the world's second-largest debating tournament and is equal in prestige to the World Debating Championship.
