Polytechnic’s Multicultural Side Raises Cash for Charity

Thursday, 6 August 2009

For CPIT (Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology) August is "Polyculture Month", and they're using their collective talents to raise money for a good cause.

On Saturday, August 8, the institute will be hosting a multicultural performance featuring Filipino dancers, Marimba Performers, African Drumming and Dancers, The Christchurch Zhonghua Chinese Society, Christchurch Chinese Dance Association and Maori Traditional Instruments, to name but a few.

Donations from audience members will be collected for the KidsCan StandTall Charitable Trust, a New Zealand based charity which provides food and clothing for financially disadvantaged children. Children who live in poverty often perform poorly at school because they are cold or hungry, and KidsCan provides shoes, rain jackets and food to help them get the most from their education.

The performance coincides with a 23-hour telethon to raise money for the charity. Organisers are hoping that some of the performances will be shown on the "Big Night In" telethon.
