NZ Universities Excel in Subject Rankings

Wednesday, 6 July 2011

International rankings by British organisation QS show that New Zealand's universities are among the best in the world in a wide variety of subjects.

Their last set of rankings by subject, released July 5th, shows that seven of New Zealand's eight universities are among the top 200 in accounting, and six are in the top 200 for economics. These are among the most sought-after subjects by employers, making New Zealand graduates in these subjects highly employable.

New Zealand also had impressive results in the sciences. Both of the country's medical schools ranked in the top 100 worldwide, while six of the eight universities were among the top 200 in biological sciences. Half of New Zealand's universities were included in the top 200 for computer sciences.

The QS rankings by subject are based on academic reputation, citations per paper and employer reputation. This gives them real-world relevance when students consider the best university to launch their careers.
