About this Programme This postgraduate programme is for registered occupational therapists. It enables them to reflect on and critically review their practice while furthering their knowledge in a specific area.
After completing three subjects, students may exit earlier with a Postgraduate Certificate in Occupational Therapy Practice.
Courses in this programme
Subjects
For the Certificate, students must select one of the following:
- Clinical reasoning
- Qualitative research in practice
- Quantitative research in practice and a further two subjects from the Diploma list below.
For the Diploma students must complete:
- Clinical reasoning and at least one of:
- Qualitative research in practice, or
- Quantitative research in practice.
Diploma students also select a further six papers from:
- New Zealand contexts of practice
- Global influences on the contexts of our practice
- Occupational therapy in the 20th century
- Inter-professional ways of knowing
- Theoretical approaches to occupational therapy
- Inclusive design
- Evidence in practice
- Beyond the basics: steps for future eldercare practice
- Pain management
- Advanced application of the theory of sensory integration
- Cognitive approaches for children with disabilities
- Mental health: issues for occupational therapists
- Wheelchairs and seating
- Negotiated study. (Not all courses are offered every year.)
Note: Papers may vary from year to year.
English Language Requirements:
Overall band score (Academic) of 7.5 IELTS (with no individual score less than 7.0), or recognised equivalent.
For international students who have not completed their first occupational therapy degree in English, it is preferable that they commence their postgraduate study while living in Dunedin.
