Established in 1991, the University of Otago Language Centre is a leader in English language teaching in New Zealand. We provide excellent English language preparation for Foundation Year, further academic study at undergraduate or postgraduate level, for everyday communication, or employment opportunities.

- Professional 24 hour student support officers help students by providing assistance with visa issues, settling into university life or any questions or concerns

- Accommodation officers are available to help students find the best accommodation options including including homestay, private halls of residence or flatting

- Weekly activities include: sports, outdoor activities, horse riding, art classes, quiz nights, ice skating, pool competitions, wildlife viewing and visits to local attractions e.g. Larnach Castle, Cadbury chocolate factory, Speights Brewery, Sandfly Bay wildlife reserve, historic Taieri Gorge train journey and more. There are trips organised each year for students to do a variety of activities such as hiking, skiing and scenic viewing in Fiordland, Stewart Island, the Catlin area and Queenstown.

The University of Otago Foundation Year was established in 1997 in association with the University of New South Wales in Australia. The course has enjoyed great success, with over 1000 students from 30 countries having been through the programme.

Students may achieve admission to all universities in New Zealand and a number of universities in Australia, United Kingdom, United States of America and Canada

Each year 89% of students who come to Foundation Year are admitted to university
