Central Hawke's Bay College
The school was established 1959 and has maintained a high academic standard. Our classes are small, averaging about 18 students in the senior school. There are approximately 700 students on the roll aged from 13 to 18, with boys and girls in equal ratio. We believe in producing confident, high-achieving all-rounders, and this aim is included in our Mission Statement.
We have not extensively marketed our beautiful rural high school overseas, and we have at present only six international students, three on student exchange (from Italy, Brazil and Japan) and three fee-paying students (from Japan and China). We feel that twelve to fifteen international students would be the optimum for the college and the local community.
Central Hawke's Bay College is set in 17 hectares of beautifully landscaped grounds, and we have a dynamic, highly-qualified staff and well-equipped facilities of all kinds. The college is widely respected for the quality of its academic programmes and its scholastic successes. A special strength is the welcoming atmosphere. We emphasise a broad and balanced education, with specialisation available in the senior school.

In Years 9 and 10, all classes study English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education, and a wide choice of options, following the requirements of the National Qualification Framework.
In Year 11, students study for the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA)
Level 1. English, Mathematics and Science are compulsory.
In Year 12, students study for NCEA Level 2, and a range of nationally moderated unit standards and achievement standards are available.
In Year 13, many students study five subjects for NCEA Level 3, although an increasing number are taking a vocational course preparing them for the world of work.
Many senior students gain credits on the National Qualifications Framework.
