Lincoln University

Founded in 1878, Lincoln University has an international reputation for teaching and research that supports growth and development in the land-based sectors. The focus of the University is on integration and the application of knowledge from science, commerce, environmental and social research. Lincoln University excels in areas related to resource management and is world renowned in areas such as agriculture and agricultural science, horticulture, viticulture and oenology, environmental management and landscape architecture. Lincoln University is also noted for its industry relevant commerce degrees and programmes, including hotel management, food science and software and information technology.

Christchurch is the main centre of the Canterbury region, an elegant old city close to the Southern Alps.

Lincoln University is home to the Government-sponsored Bio-Protection Research Centre, the only Centre of Research Excellence in the South Island. The University is also New Zealand’s top ranked University for environmental management and landscape architecture - the University was the highest ranked organisation in the 2006 New Zealand Performance Based Research Funding (PBRF) report’s Architecture, Design, Planning and Surveying area of research.

Lincoln University is a friendly and supportive place to study. The superb park-like campus, less than half an hour’s drive from Christchurch, is home to students from more than 60 countries.

Facilities

Students enjoy modern teaching and research facilities, computing laboratories with 24-hour access, and comprehensive student amenities including tennis courts, a cricket pitch, a golf driving range and a superb sports and recreation centre.

Accommodation

Students in the fully catered Halls of Residence have their own furnished room with shared laundry and bathroom facilities. Students also have the option of self-catered Halls of Residence or to organise their own accommodation off campus. To help students integrate into University life, a full calendar of social, sporting and cultural events and activities is offered.

Academic Programmes

The University offers a wide range of courses from English Language and Foundation Studies (university entrance qualification) to certificate/diploma, undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate level qualifications. English Language Proficiency

Students whose first language is not English need to provide evidence of English proficiency. Lincoln University’s Foundation Studies and English Language Divison specialises in courses that prepare students for tertiary study.

Minimum scores are as follows:

Postgraduate and Graduate = IELTS 6.5 (minimum band score 6.0) or an equivalent and recognised qualification.

Undergraduate = IELTS 6.0 (minimum band score 5.5) or an equivalent and recognised qualification.

Foundation Studies = IELTS 5.5 (minimum band score 5.0) or an equivalent and recognised qualification.

Note: Lincoln University offers its own English Language Entrance qualifications (English for Academic Purposes – EAP)

Academic Year

Lincoln University’s academic year is structured so that students can begin their studies in either February or July.

Summer school is available from November to January for specific undergraduate courses.

Foundation Studies commence in February, July and November each year.

English language classes commence every Monday from mid January through to late December each year.
