Fabian Veliz Olea

Winning a scholarship from his government, Fabian was excited to take the opportunity to study in a different country. His options were to study in Melbourne or at Waiariki Institute of Technology in Rotorua. Fabian chose Waiariki.

Rotorua became Fabian's first choice as he looked for a positive environment, good place to live, to study and to learn about multicultural ways. When he arrived in Rotorua he found it calming and comforting, the perfect place to study.

Fabian was born and grew up in Santiago, the capital of Chile. After studying foreign trade in Chile, he went on to study business management which made him decide he was on the right career track.

In Semester 1, 2011, Fabian completed the Certificate in English which he thoroughly enjoyed. He is now studying toward the National Certificate in First Line Management.

“There are many things that I like about Waiariki Institute of Technology. If I had to mention just one it would be the tutors. They are always so quick to help, they are always able to solve our doubts and problems. They are very helpful and caring.”

Fabian would love to start a business in the tourism sector. Doing all this study on business management means he is gaining enough knowledge and skills to feel confident in his abilities.

“I am going back to Chile in December. I have to take advantage of my experience here, plus my English, so I will apply for a higher position in the company that I work in at the moment. At the same time, I have in mind to start a business in Chile in the tourism sector.”
