"Although the weather may feel quite cold at times compared with California, Wellington has a safe and relaxed atmosphere with reliable public transportation. Victoria University has a diverse base of international students from all over the world."

I am from Long Beach, California, and doing a Master of International Relations (MIR) within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Victoria University of Wellington.
I first enrolled at Victoria University in a BA in History and Pacific Studies. I then completed a BA (Hons) in History before entering the MIR programme.
The MIR programme is based on coursework that includes a journal-length research essay. My interests lie in global security and conflict analysis and the MIR programme will be greatly beneficial to my career. Through the MIR programme, I have been fortunate enough to gain an internship with a current member of the New Zealand parliament who has vast experience in the foreign ministry. The Parliamentary internship programme is available to post-graduate politics students at both the Honours and Masters levels and is open to international students if they are accepted by the selection committee.
While at Victoria I was fortunate enough to meet my future wife, who is from Zambia and was studying a Law degree.
Wellington is New Zealand’s capital city. It’s full of cafes, bars and theatres and has a beautiful harbour.
