Pui-Yi Chan

Pui-Yi has really enjoyed her time at UC. After finishing high school Pui-Yi completed the Foundation Studies programme which she describes as both challenging and rewarding. “My writing skills and English speaking improved a lot. I am really proud of the amount I learnt.”

While an Accounting qualification was always the plan the experiences in the first year of her BCom degree led Pui-Yi to acquire a taste for Management. “I took a couple of Management and Management Science papers and I really enjoyed them. By doing a double endorsement in both Accounting and Strategic Management I have been able to keep my options open for my future.”

Pui-Yi’s management skills have been expanded further through her role in the Hong Kong Students’ Society where she needs to organise events and create a profile for the society. She also volunteers at International Student Support who helped her a lot when she started at UC.

On what makes Christchurch special, Pui-Yi states that “Christchurch is the perfect place to study, and the casual lifestyle flows through into the University where the lecturers are very friendly. They use many examples to illustrate difficult concepts, especially in Accounting, and you can ask questions if you don’t understand.”

Looking to the future, Pui-Yi is aiming to own her own business either in New Zealand or Hong Kong and utilise the skills that have been gained during her university years.
