Unitec offers an excellent learning environment with modern facilities and support services that enhance student success. Accommodation either on campus or off campus or homestay is arranged as requested by the student. There are currently over 1000 international students from 54 different countries studying on this multicultural campus.
Courses Available
Unitec offers high quality internationally recognised programmes in a wide variety of disciplines at Certificate, Diploma, Degree, and Postgraduate levels.
These programmes are offered in the Faculties of: Architecture & Design and School of Engineering, Arts & Social Sciences, Business, Health and Environmental Sciences, and in the Unitec Applied Technology Institute. International students can enter at the level that best suits their qualifications and experience. At Unitec programmes are designed and structured aspathways to a higher level of study. For example, successful completion of a Certificate could lead onto a Diploma or Degree. General and Intensive English language programmes are offered by UNITEC's School of Languages, which is also an accredited IELTS testing centre.
Unitec for International Education
Unitec's International office provides international students with a range of support services - processing enquiries and applications, assisting with immigration matters, arranging accommodation either on-campus or off-campus, airport pickup, referring you to appropriate support services on campus for academic matters, and the office has a full time staff member dedicated to the support of all international students. Unitec has an established International Students' Club that organises special gatherings and events, which enables international students to meet and interact with local New Zealand students.
Facilities
There are a wide range of student services and facilities available at Unitec. These are provided to give students support and assistance on campus: Banking; Bus Services (including free shuttle bus on campus and from local train station); Cafeterias; Sport and Recreation Centre; Clubs; Computing Facilities; Copycentre; Library; Bookshops; Student Health Centre; and a Student Union.
Accommodation
International students have several options to choose from when considering accommodation at Unitec: Hall of Residence, Homestay, Flatting (furnished or unfurnished apartments). The Accommodation form needs to be filled in and returned with your Acceptance Letter of Offer.
Climate
Auckland enjoys a temperate climate. Summers are dry and warm with temperatures averaging 19 - 25°Celsius. Winter temperatures average between 13 - 18°Celsius.
Academic Year
The academic year runs in two semesters beginning in February and July. Many programmes offered at Unitec have intakes in both semesters. English language is available from January to December and applications can be received all year round.
English Language Proficiency
Evidence of English language proficiency is required for all academic applications. The preferred measure is the IELTS or TOEFL system.
