Location and Facilities
Tamatea High School is situated in "sunny" Napier, a city with a population of 54,000 people. Napier is a seaside city within easy reach of beaches, volcanic regions, ski fields, lakes, 'native bush, gannets, farms, orchards and forests. It has a harbour and airport. The climate is hot in summer and cool in winter. The school is an attractive modern school with facilities such as an auditorium, gymnasium, a music/drama suite, library, computers, science laboratories, manual blocks and a Student Support Centre, as well as large sports grounds and a canteen.
Academic Programme
The school prepares students to attend universities and polytechnics and other tertiary training institutions. Students prepare for (National Certificate of Educational Achievement) NCEA exams in Year 11, Year 12, Year13. Subjects offered are English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computing, Geography, History, Drama, Design and Technology, Music, Art, Economics, English as a Second Language, Hospitality, Physical Studies, Graphics, Photography, Information Technology, French, German, Japanese, Maori, Sculpture, Textiles, Electronics, plus our comprehensive transition programme.
Extra Curricular Programmes
There are many and varied extra-curricular programmessuch as, drama, debating, theatre sports, music plus school productions. Outdoor activities and sports - volleyball, basketball, net-ball, soccer, rugby, cricket, touch rugby, golf, hockey, tennis, triathlons, squash. Special programmes offer studentsmany other: options e.g. First Aid, Defensive Driving, Recreation, Speech New Zealand Exams, IELTS preparation and Toastmaster International Youth Leadership Speech Course for International Students.

Special Relations with International Schools and Students Tamatea High School is a multicultural school, having had 31 years experience in providing education and care to international students. It welcomes and values contact with other cultures.
Student Welfare
International students add another cultural dimension to our school and we understand the importance of caring for our international pupils. The Director of International Students and our ESOL teacher ensures that the students' needs are met from the time of arrival in Napier until they leave the school. Regular reports are sent to parents giving details of progress of their sons/daughters.
Accommodation
International students live in a homestay. This is arranged by the school and enables the students to experience and to be involved in supportive New Zealand family life. This way they can learn and practice English as well as understand the New Zealand culture. Homestays are monitored by the Director of International Students. English Language Support We have a qualified ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) teacher who assesses the students on arrival and orientates them into school programmes. We offer on going support and assistance.

Annual tuition fees are NZ$9,800 including GST
$550 Student Support Fee
$350 Administration Fee
$2,500 Contingency fund (this fund covers uniform, stationery, school trips etc)
Medical and Travel insurance is required - $450 for 1 year with Uni-care.
