The Programme
The Certificate in Foundation Studies Programme at Massey University:
- is a recognised university entrance qualification that prepares students for entry into undergraduate programmes at Massey University and other New Zealand universities
- provides a strong foundation in essential subjects
- introduces students to the academic learning environment
- improves students' English language skills for successful study
- provides the opportunity for students to experience the culture and lifestyle of New Zealand.
The Certificate in Foundation Studies is offered for domestic and international students from non-English speaking backgrounds. This Certificate is available at all campuses; Albany (Auckland), Palmerston North and Wellington. The programme has been designed to assist students to qualify for unrestricted undergraduate degrees. There are three options to choose from; a full Certificate of two semesters and a one semester academic pathway and a one semester English language pathway. Students can commence studies with a minimum of IELTS 5.0 (no band score less than 5.0) English language requirement together with appropriate academic admission.
Students are assessed by a combination of assignments and weekly tasks. In 2003 80% of students who began this programme successfully completed and have moved onto further tertiary study in New Zealand or overseas. In 2004 this figure has seen over 73% of students move into degree study at Massey University alone.
New students can commence February, July, and November depending on the Certificate undertaken and the location of the campus.
After successful completion of this programme, students gain direct entry to unrestricted undergraduate degree programmes at Massey University.
Student Welfare
Students have an advisor to oversee their academic and general welfare. The advisor also assists students with their entry into degree/diploma programmes at Massey University.

Tuition fees
Vary depending on the length of the programme starting from NZ$5360.00 plus non-tuition fees for an international student.
