There is a wide choice of private English language schools in New Zealand.  Currently over 110 English language schools are signatories to the Code of Practice.  In addition, all universities and most ITPs have English Language schools on campus.

Most English language schools have flexible start dates throughout the year, in fact students can usually start on the Monday of each week.  Course length ranges from 4 weeks to 12 months.  Classes run Monday to Friday.  Sometimes there are extra-curricular activities and events during the week or at the weekend.

Most private English language schools are registered with the New Zealand Qualifications Authority.  This ensures tuition is of a high standard; courses meet international standards and are recognised world wide.  International students requiring a student visa must enroll with an NZQA-registered school, for an NZQA-approved and accredited course – this is a student visa requirement.  This can be easily checked through www.nzqa.govt.nz – Find Education Providers.

Common features of English language schools are friendly tutors and small class sizes (usually less than 12 students).  This means that students can receive the attention and support they need.

New Zealand English language courses use modern teaching methods, including language laboratory work and conversational classes.  Students have access to computers, video and library facilities.  Most language schools also have student lounges, cafeterias, organised social activities and holiday programmes.
