Providing immigration advice is a licensed, recognised profession in New Zealand.

Agents wishing to become licensed immigration advisers must contact the Immigration Advisers Authority – 0508 422 422 or email

Education providers and education agents should think very carefully if they are providing immigration information; giving guidance or direction tailored for a student’s specific circumstances, or using their knowledge and experience of immigration.
It is a serious offence for a person to give immigration advice without being licensed (or exempt),. If convicted, a person is liable for a fine of up to $100,000 and/or up to seven years imprisonment.
