“Global Remix” Welcomes New Wellingtonians
Friday, 24 July 2009
Former Ethiopian refugee Terefe Ejigu knows what it's like to feel out of place, so he's joined a group called "Global Remix" for refugees, migrants and international students at Victoria Universtiy of Wellington.
(via Cook Strait News) Terefe is studying Development Studies at Victoria, and joined the group as a way to help others in the community.
"It's a really fun place to be, and you meet a lot of students from diverse cultures." he says.
As well as improving academic and language skills, Global Remix also aims to help students deal with the culture shock of arriving in New Zealand.
"You get the chance to meet people who you might come across, but are afraid to say hi to because you're not sure how." he says.
