Saudi Women’s Delegation visits NZ Polytechnics

Friday, 19 November 2010

More Saudi women could be training in New Zealand after a visit to six polytechnics and institutes of technology by the Kingdom's top female educators. The two week visit is thought to be the first to New Zealand by a women's education delegation representing Saudi Arabia.

(via Waikato Times) Dr Muneerah AlAloula, deputy governor for girls' training at the Saudi Arabian Technical and Vocational Training Corporation, headed the group and told the Waikato Times, through a translator, that the visit was an important step towards improved education for young Saudi Arabian women.

"We wish to improve the quality of our vocational education system and enrich our labour market," she said.

The delegation will be looking to partner with New Zealand polytechnics on upskilling teachers, improving curricula and increasing the number of young Saudi Arabian women attending New Zealand polytechs.

Dr AlAloula said the improved education of young Saudi Arabian men and women would allow more of the country's own people to work in the nation's private sectors.

The delegation is visiting Wintec, the Manukau Institute of Technology, Unitec, Whitireia Community Polytechnic, Weltec, and Christchurch Polytechnice Institute of Technology.
