  • Welcome

Just an hour north of Wellington is the Wairarapa district, a rural area with small towns and farms bordered by majestic mountains.

Martinborough and Greytown are popular places to enjoy the regions’ famous wines, in a friendly roadside wine bar or café.

With its rugged coast, native bush and rivers, the Wairarapa is a major recreation destination for Wellingtonians who flock there in huge numbers on weekends. Surfing, fishing, boating, hiking and cycling are popular.

Wine, food and music festivals in the hot summer months attract visitors from Wellington and throughout New Zealand.

  • Wings over Wairapa

Widely regarded as one of Australasia’s largest and fastest growing air shows Wings Over Wairarapa rivals any show for display content and reputation. The theme of the show, ‘We Will Remember’, celebrates not only the aircraft but also the men and women that have shaped the history of aviation.

  • A swing-bridge

Waiohine Gorge is a popular camping and recreation area; it’s also the south eastern entrance to the Tararua Forest Park. A large swing bridge spans the gorge, inviting you to venture into the forest.

  • Stonehenge Aotearoa

For millennia people have gazed in awe at Stonehenge and other great stone circles, often totally unaware of how these structures were used. Now a full-scale working adaptation of Stonehenge has been built in New Zealand allowing people to experience the wonders of stone circles for themselves.
